At Freedom Christian Academy our professional educators exists to encourage parents in schooling their children at home.
We offer parent collaboration sessions, portfolio checks, fieldtrips, parent connection activities, and small group classes. We are approved Home Education Instructional Providers (Step-Up Scholarship).
Freedom Christian Academy of Longwood exists to inspire students to acquire and develop a thriving relationship with Jesus, while learning to practice servant-leadership within the community. Freedom Christian hopes to partner with parents in this endeavor.
During our school year program (Aug. - May) on Tuesday and Thursday (9am - noon), we will be working hard at developing God-centered science exploration that will keep your kids engaged and release you (the parent) from being fully responsible for scientific subject matter.
A noon release provides time for picnics in the park for lunch and afternoons for reading. Giving kids a few hours a week working with peers and classroom teachers will help support your social goals in a safe environment.
Freedom learners work in mixed-age learning groups. Each group is typically spread over 2 - 3 grades levels. Mixed-ages allows us to let go of assumptions related to ages and grade levels. It also ensures that all children are reaching toward the highest expectations. We don’t want to limit kids because “you’re in 2nd grade and you don’t learn that until 3rd grade.” We want all students stretching towards the highest end of the group. And highest doesn’t always mean oldest.
Freedom Christian Academy offers parents and kids a paradigm shift in education. We’re not just interested in “doing school” and checking the boxes, which has been the status quo for the past century in education. We’re interested in partnering with parents to make sure that the formative years of a child’s education will set the foundation for a lifetime of learning.
We allow our kids the freedom to develop thinking skills and confidence. We give them the freedom to be curious and the time to ask questions. We also focus on robust instructional structures that facilitate the development of conceptual understanding. We want children to be active participants in their own learning by explicitly teaching the importance of being curious, hard work, critical listening, debate, argumentation, and working alongside others.
Finally, our "no homework" philosophy, in-class learning opportunities, and out-of-class learning opportunities continues our commitment to parents and students taking charge of learning as a lifestyle.
Our classroom teachers will focus on science lessons and content so you don't have to.
By attending our classes, your child will have the opportunity to learn and study through partner and group work with plenty of rich discussions. They will be led by an experienced teacher to grapple with core foundational concepts, collaborate with other learners, and dig deeper to justify and solidify ideas in science.
Our method is hands-on and minds-on learning. We will focus on deep learning and thinking within the concepts to be learned. As teachers, we constantly ask ourselves, “Will this improve student understanding and their ability to connect with the world around them?” “Is this the richest, most challenging idea within a subject that we can bring to the kids?”
