Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at fcalongwood@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A studio is a creative, flexible space where students can explore, experiment, and express their ideas across different subjects and mediums. In an educational setting—especially for enrichment or extension—a studio isn't tied to just one subject.

  1. Project-Based Learning (PBL):
    • Students work on hands-on, collaborative projects that tie together subjects like science, history, math, and literacy.
    • They may design inventions, research topics of interest, or solve real-world problems.

  1. Creative Expression:
    • Opportunities to use art, writing, building, and multimedia to express ideas and learning.
    • Students might sketch diagrams, create storyboards, or paint historical scenes.

  1. Independent Exploration:
    • Students can choose topics or questions they’re curious about and dig deeper at their own pace.
    • Flexible materials like books, tools, and digital resources are available for research and making.

  1. Skill-Building Activities:
    • Extension activities that build on core curriculum: math games, reading challenges, or science experiments.
    • These often reinforce critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.

  1. Reflection and Sharing:

  • Students reflect on their work and learning process, sometimes through journals or presentations.
  • Sharing is part of the experience—students learn to explain their thinking and showcase their work.

Freedom Studio meets on Tuesdays and Thursday as part of an extended day from Noon to 2:00 PM. Students will bring a lunch to class and eat with other classmates. Families can choose a 1-day per week option OR a 2-day per week option.

Good question! Here is a general idea:

12:00-12:40 Lunch and Play

12:40-2:00 PM Enrichment and extension projects. These may extend the Science/Social classes or may be completely different. This may include multi-day projects, art and creative expressions, book read-alouds and literacy activities, math puzzles and problem-solving, build days, etc.

2:00 PM Pick Up

The Freedom Studio will be co-taught by our 6th-8th grade teacher and our 3rd-5th grade teacher. They both have many years of experience with K-8th grade teaching.
